Business After 5
The Auburn Education Foundation seeks to support and enrich the learning environment of students in the Auburn Enlarged City School District through, among other things, funding and collaboration. As part of its mission to support education through collaboration, AEF partnered with the Auburn Enlarged City School District to co-sponsor the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce Business After 5 November event, held at the Auburn Junior High School. BOCES students enrolled in the BOCES Culinary Arts Department catered the event.
Members of the business community, AECSD and AEF Boards of Directors toured the updated technology classrooms, where students regularly discover the magic of a green screen in the TV studio, use drones, or create their own videos. Elementary School students demonstrated skills acquired in the MakerSpaces, and Breakout Kits; and those in attendance discovered the use of drumming in physical education classes. The latter projects are all teacher-generated grant proposals funded by AEF.
AEF is proud to expand opportunities to students in the AECSD. Business After 5 provided a chance to showcase the work of the district and highlight the BOCES Culinary Arts department. The ability of our elementary and Auburn Junior High School students to apply technology, apply critical thinking skills to solve problems, and use collaboration to solve problems were prominently displayed through live demonstration from students.
The AEF Board of Directors would like to thank the AECSD, BOCES Culinary arts Department, Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce, business leaders, and other community members who helped make the event a success. Finally, a shoutout to the students and faculty of Auburn Junior High School, our elementary schools, and BOCES who helped showcase their achievements.
We look forward to hosting another Business After 5 event in 2019!
